1967, I was 13. I bought a strange looking album called Gorilla at the local Korvette department store. Had never heard it, or of the band. It just sort of called to me.
Recently realized that of all the things I had when I was 13, this is the only thing I still have.
Did I tell this before?

Later, Morgan cemented the fixation. But I didn't even know about bonobos until much later. But why did this particular record call to me? I only had $3, so I could buy only one. It was a huge record department, there were lots of albums I wanted. I remember looking at Lothar & The Hand People (or was that a different day?) and Pink Floyd, and all the Stones I didn't have. Yet I took Gorilla home. I'll need a few more sessions to come to terms with that, Doc. Just can't grasp it yet.

I'm not sure exactly how old I was but my eldest brother, Pete (RIP), had a copy of 'Gorilla' and I listened to it all the way through and loved it, along with a Marty Feldman album that he also had. I also used to watch 'Do Not Adjust Your Set' when I was little but don't actually remember much about it or remember seeing the Bonzo's on it. When I was about 16 I bought a second hand copy of 'Doughnut In Grannies Greenhouse' and thought it was brilliant as well.

"The Very Best of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band" (Music for Pleasure, 1984) (on original vinyl) when I was about 14-15, at my best friend's house. He went out of his way to find stuff to make me laugh hysterically - and this beat the lot! Very soon after this, another friend played me "Gorilla" - and the rest his history. I now own every album in every format!
