Another film adaption of a favourite book of mine. I'm feeling quite spoiled by the TV gods at the moment. It's on Sunday 23 March 2008, 9pm - 10.45pm, BBC One If you've never heard of it, here is the BBC page about it. www.bbc.co.uk/drama/no1ladiesdetectiveagency/btw I have started a discussion about this on MyLot but it hasn't got any responses yet.

The director Anthony Minghella is from The Isle Of Wight and he's just died about 2 days ago so this will be a big occasion for people down here. It's very sad as his family are very well known down here they have an ice cream factory, and of course he made all those films. I'll find the discussion on Mylot and respond to it now, I've heard good things about the book though I haven't read it.

Don't bother with the ones he wrote set in Edinburgh tho, they are dreadful and I haven't met anyone who has a good word to say about them. I wonder what they'll do about the series as this is only a pilot film. It might not be the same without Minghella.

There were two people involved I think from the documentary I saw so hopefully they will continue it in his memory, we'll just have to wait and see.

I saw it last night it was great really well filmed and well told, I didn't think it was overly sentimental either. It dealt with some heavy issues like domestic violence and AIDS Orphans, and child abduction for body parts and organs. Though it definitely had it's lighter moments and didn't really rub the negative stuff in your face (they never said "AIDS" for example they just referred to it as a horrible disease) it was quite well balanced I thought.

I was worried it might come across as too idealised but it didn't go too far. It is a really good adaption of the books. I just wish the series was on sooner but it's next year. I thought most people would enjoy it ,whether they were familiar with the books or not. ;D

Yes I'm glad will still be a series, they must still be filming it if it's going to be that long.
