I'm nearly at the end of the book I'm reading - 54 by Wu Ming - and don't have the next one lined up, any recommendations??
I'll try almost anything once ;D I don't like historical or non-fiction and I have had enough of the bloody Knights Templars.

Hmm I'm just finishing The Last bloody Templar lol, 'spose you've done all the Dan Brown stuff, are you into sci-fi stuff? Well I've read 2 Dan Brown books and when I need a book which makes no demands at all on me, I might try some more ;D I do like sci-fi stuff and used to read a lot of it along with fantasy and horror but haven't read much recently tried Algebraist by Iain Banks but it was a bit dull so I gave up. I have read a lot of Iain Banks and Iain M. Banks and usually like them but I suppose all authors have an off book.

So have you tackled Greg Bear? he's not too bad & some of Alan Dean Fosters' stuff can be a good read, but you need to be choosy with him

What do you reckon are the best ones to start with?

One of the last good fiction books I read was "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold, it's a bit depressing as it's about a young girl who gets murdered and the effect it has on her family and friends. It is still a good book and worth a read though.
I also read "Cold Mountain" and enjoyed it, I haven't seen the film yet.
Has anyone read the "Da Vinci code" yet? I haven't though I'm told it's good.

If you like funny fantasy try the Jasper Fforde books. I'm reading The Fourth Bear at the moment and Goldilocks has just been blown to bits at SommeWorld, the WW1 heritage centre. Very English, odd and clever. They need to be read in the right order, though. I couldn't bring myself to read the DaVinci Code because I know too much about early christian history. My mum tried to describe it to me and all I could think was 'That's not right... they didn't do that...that's not what it's about at all...' and so on so the idea of an entire book designed to wind me up seemed like a bad idea.

I like Japer fforde, I've not read The fourth Bear tho, the last one I read I think was the well of lost plots, glad you reminded me I'll put them on the list You're not missing much, remember it is fiction, too many people have read it and then thought it was real

I've nearly finished reading a book called "The Death and life of Charlie St Cloud" by Ben Sherwood, it's really good. It's about 2 boys called Charlie and Sam and when Charlie oldest is 15 and Sam is about 12 Charlie steals a truck and they go to watch a base ball game. On the way back they crash and Sam dies and Charlie has to be shocked back to life. when he wakes up he can see people who are still in limbo between life and death and goes and plays baseball in the cemetery every night with his brother. As an adult he ends up working there and helping spirits to move on. He can't get close to anyone however as if he misses one day his brother will move on to the next level, and he can't tell the women he dates what he's doing as they'll call him crazy. It's really good but hard to explain don't do it justice, I recommend it anyway.

Sorry to bring up the Knights Templar again, but I just finished reading Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail. It's a very fun read, and there are only a few Knights involved. Now I'm on Tragically I was an Only Twin, a collection of writings by Peter Cook.

Not because I have a Templars/Holy Grail obsession although my friend does it was just for the chance to meet him as The Damned were one of my favourite bands.
