Hi, I found this board from a link by Nancy on the "Does Humor belong in Music" group on last.fm. I'm just getting into the BDDDB after stumbling onto some random youtube videos which then introduced me to the 2007 reissue of Gorilla. It was one of those albums that after listening to it for the first time straight through I had to play it again. It has it all for me - traditional jazz, a bit of rock and roll, spoken word, calypso, high minded wit and wordplay and at the same time, you know, tubas that sound like farts (in My brother makes the Noise). I love drummer "Legs" Larry Smith's drumming. Or if not the drumming, his eclectic taste. It's exactly the kind of thing I was trying to go for (but missed) in my own playing in a rag-tag New York anti-folk outfit called The Telethons. see Banjo Pickin' Girl. Anyway Im so glad not only that this album exists but that there are more by the BDDDB out there. So far my fav songs are "Im Bored" "Sound of Music" "Look Out there's a Monster Coming" "Jazz Delicious Hot.." but I'm sure that'll change. Other than music, I like Monty Python, of course, pre-Annie Hall Woody Allen, and am just discovering Fry and Laurie, after being introduced to Hugh Laurie from his US show, House MD.

Morning, Marco You lucky bugger! Having only heard Gorilla, you have a whole world of weird and wonderful to come. For your next purchase I'd suggest either Tadpoles (more silly) or Doughnut In Granny's Greenhouse (more weird, but also includes the stellarly brilliant My Pink Half of The Draipipe). And as for the question 'Does Humor belong in Music', my answer would be "Only in the way that your tongue belongs in your mouth." There ain't half some daft questions on t' internet.

Welcome Marco. Yes, many Yanks are 'way behind on the Hugh Laurie learning curve. Do try to get Blackadder, series 3 and Jeeves and Wooster to further your education Lauriewise... www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6kfIR1pPxII cannot wait to hear your impressions of My Pink Half of the Drainpipe and Canyons of Your Mind!! But ease into Slush and Strain, there's a good chap.
