When I was about 15 I went to a surrealist film festival where they showed loads of Bunuel films (Chien Andalou, Obscure Object of Desire, Phantom of Liberty, Belle de Jour, the marvelous Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie) amongst a bizarre collection of others (Fantastic Planet, Final Programme, Scanners and the funniest film I'd ever seen - Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the entire audience treated it like a panto with extra ketchup)).
The thing I didn't like about Bunuel was his repeated use of the idea of trapping a group of people in a room and watching them lose it. But then I found out that Sartre or Camus had said that Hell was a group of people (later versions said just yourself) trapped in a room for eternity. Which is where Bunuel got the idea from.
And now we have Big Brother - Hell, televised.

Since the new moderator thread has been locked, I'd just like to say how surreal it is that moosay and kattsay are now moderators. The inmates are taking over the asylum! We are normal and we want our freedom!
(Seriously, congratulations guys!)

Surrealist films... in the early 70s I saw a film at a theater in Santa Barbara, CA, called Quasi At The Quackaderro. It was very surreal animation. That's all I remember, except that the voices of the characters were funny. Quasi is a duck. Someone says to him, "What's your name?" He answers, "Quasi." That was the funniest line in the film!
I tried to find it with Google once, but it seems to be forgotten. Or maybe I'm spelling it wrong.

Marvellous stuff, the animation style reminded me of one my childhood favourites Roobarb and Custard ;D

Never saw them, but Quasi looks like Arthur, who was an aardvark, I think. Definitely not ducklike, funny how time distorts the persistence of memory. Or something.
