I didn't know there was a Bonzo's fan club in the past so I'd be interested to hear about it if anyone knows anymore. The most likely person too is Doo-Dah Diaries (another member here) as he's compiling all the information he can find on the Bonzo's into books. (By the way, my recent inactivity on the forum is due to a high-octane chest cold that's kept me stuck in bed for a week, and also my reluctance to participate "too much".) Nancy, I can tell you the club boasted an international membership, hotspots of Bonzo interest being Germany, Switzerland, and Brooklyn, New York. This was pretty amazing, considering it was way before the internet. The guys put tiny ads in a few record collector magazines and got a huge response. I also remember the celebrity membership included Richard Thompson and Rick Wakeman. Dean, Pete, and Mark went to see Wakeman at a club in New Jersey and tried to give him a gift membership - he wouldn't hear of it - whipped out a $20 bill and said, "Rick Wakeman always pays his way." I also remember that when Dean traveled to Britain to see Stinkfoot, he also interviewed Neil at his home, and Neil gifted him with a mile-high pile of Bonzo clippings, photos, and (I think) audio tapes. After they decided to go ahead and produce the "fanzine", they prepared factsheets to hand out at one of Neil's New York concerts and were inundated with requests to join. As I've said before, it was a lot of work and, for them, a labor of love ... I can only guess that it got to be too much work. Now I'm wondering if I should offer the three fan club packages to the Doo Dah Diaries guy (David? Dennis?) rather than confine them to the Share archive. Any suggestions?

But I grew up in New Brunswick so I have a soft spot for Maine. I like you even better now, Graytart. I have a close friend (almost a surrogate son) who was raised in Moncton and now lives in St. John. He's quite a bit younger than me, and I'm sure he couldn't be bothered with the Bonzos. Heck, I can't even get him interested in SCTV, which I still think is the best thing ever produced for television anywhere. The guy's a complete hoser, eh?

I'm not as afraid of trouble from the real Bert Weedon as I am from the spelling police. They're ruthless, merciless, and vile. Weedon't have spelling police in Canada so come on up and right it enn eee weigh ewe like But I'm intrigued, what kind of spells do they cast? Can they turn you into, say, a bookworm? Or an ink blot? I took a quick look at B.W's website, I wasn't sure he was still alive, turns out he's now 88 and was awarded an OBE in 2001. So I guess he's B.W.OBE nowadays and you should be safe to be just plain old B.W. without the 'OBE' You can dig just how good you're looking here...... www.bertweedon.com/features.htm#obe'' Okay, so the spelling police don't cast spells. And I do know you couldn't have spelling police in Canada because I watch CBC Northbeat online as often as I can. But I still have scars on my lower extremities from when they discovered I'd been spelling "dilemma" the British way, i.e., "dilemNa". My sister and I were taught in New Jersey elementary schools to use the "Na" spelling, and my mother's aunt who came from Belfast, N.I. gave me an Irish dictionary where it's spelled that way, but I find myself completely alone in my insistence that "dilemNa" is a valid spelling. I even wrote to some newspaper language "experts" who say they've never encountered that spelling. So I've joined the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" crowd and spell it "dilemma", except very late at night when I'm alone. Just for spite I'll mouth the word and spell it aloud at the ceiling, often leading to reflexive cramping in my legs. Thank you also for the link to Bert's website. Les Paul, who just turned 93, is still very active. He plays every Monday night at a small club in New York and then stops by the Joey Reynolds all-night talk show on WOR radio in New York. I've heard recently that he's still inventing, too, and is about to release a guitar that tunes itself. (Someone told me the Japanese have already done that.) And with that, I guess I should move my discussions out of "The Intros," huh?

That would be a good idea check he doesn't already have some of it though, maybe once he's recorded them in the diaries he could send the things on to the archive? That way everyones happy. David the Doo-Dah Diaries guy posts on here as "doo-dah diaries" here's the link to his site you can contact him directly and discuss it with him. web.mac.com/doo.dah.diaries/iWeb/Doo%20Dah%20Diaries/Doo%20Dah%20Diaries.html
